£75,000 for Fall in Café

A 70-year-old woman who suffered broken bones in a fall in a café has won £75,000 in damages.

The accident happened when the woman, who did not want to be named, visited the Lanterns café in Swindon town centre. She tripped on a mat as she entered the premises and was sent flying, knocking over several tables as she fell. She suffered a broken shoulder and serious damage to her left knee. She also dislocated her other shoulder.

She was in hospital for two and a half weeks after the accident. As a result of her injuries, she has to live on the ground floor of her house as she is unable to climb stairs. She also has difficulty sitting down.

The woman brought a claim for compensation against the café. It emerged that the mat on which she had tripped was not of the correct density. The café's insurers admitted liability and paid out £75,000 in compensation. This includes compensation for loss of earnings: the woman had been struggling to meet basic living costs as a result of being unable to work.

If you have been injured in a trip, slip or fall through no fault of your own, it may be possible to claim personal injury compensation. Contact Charles Gregory Solicitors for advice on how to proceed.
